Earlier this week we published an article outlining the numerous ways that technology and computers can benefit Oldsters who take the time to learn how to use them. In the western world we seem to be at the nexus of several contradictory social trends – technological innovation is on the rise, church attendance and strict adherence to established religious doctrines is on the decrease, and an interest in personal spirituality and self-healing seems to be on the increase.
Setting aside any discussion of religious doctrine; one thing is certain — no matter what we believe, we all believe something regarding spirituality and the existence of a higher power. Even the insistence that there is no “divine force” is in of itself a state of belief. And the other thing that most of us can agree is that as you age is not uncommon to question or change beliefs that we have held for many years. It can be brought on by anything — a personal trauma, or an earthquake, or an illness or the passing of a loved one, but sooner or later most of us will experience a sense of doubt and start asking ourselves questions: Is this world as we know it really all there is? What happens when we die? Is there a God? Do I have a soul? Is there a force inside me that can help me achieve better health? How can I get in better touch with myself?
Needless to say it will take countless articles to explore these questions from different points of view. So as a starting point, we will confine ourselves to a topic that anyone can appreciate: how to develop a more loving state of being inside yourself. Just look at the face of someone in love and you can will everything you need to acknowledge that being loving is a good thing – the smile, the radiant glow, the happy positive outlook, the boundless energy. Who wouldn’t want to feel like that every day? And if it were possible, who wouldn’t want to harness that blissful state to promote personal health and well-being?
Well … perhaps now you can. Oprah has teamed up with Dr. Deepak Chopra to offer a free online meditation series entitled “Miraculous Relationships”. This three week guided meditation challenge starts on August 8th and is designed to assist participants in journeying to the heart of love “to embrace your true essence, expand your understanding of divine relationship, and experience unparalleled connection with the world around you.”
