Bill’s Blog

006_02Thank you for visiting

I really hope we can provide you with useful information, resources and entertainment.

Allow me to introduce myself ~ My name is Bill Storie, and I am the Founder of I am 64 years old (2013) and I live in Bermuda. I am originally from Scotland and I am a Chartered Accountant (C.A. Scotland). I have worked in Bermuda since 1975 with a major accounting firm, then moved into the corporate insurance world, then I had my own international management consulting company for many years. I recently retired from a local bank where I have been for the last 9 years.

I have spent considerable time in the Internet Arena since 1995. I published a weekly e-newsletter called BerBiz for 15 years, focusing on the business community of Bermuda. It had a large following, many of whom became personal friends from across the world.

So, as I approached retirement, I knew that golf or gardening had no attraction for me. I regularly thought about a Blog, but just could not come up with a theme which would be sustainable in terms of regular content.

Then one evening I was watching the movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – about a group of recently retired people in Britain who decide to move to India for new adventures. In one scene, Dame Judy Dench is asked how she will keep in touch with family, and she says, ”Just read my blog”. Boom. That was it –

My blog would be about my thoughts, feelings and emotions as I approached retirement, …. and life thereafter.

I really believe that the retirement stage of life – Childhood to Adulthood to the Olderhood stage – must, by its very nature, be the most important part of the lifecycle for people of age. They cannot go back and start again. They must handle the ups and downs of retirement as they move on in their lives. As such, it was perfectly obvious to me that ONLY people of age could share their joys and concerns with other people of age. Unless you are there, you cannot possible express the true perspectives.

I am glad you’ve joined us in the Olderhood, and I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you too may choose to share your thoughts with the rest of us.

From Employment to Enjoyment.

  1. As I contemplate retirement soon and consider my options from a financial perspective, I look forward to reading the views of others approaching the ‘enjoyment’ phase of life…..!!

  2. Thank you Gordon. We encourage Olderhood Members to either send us their thoughts, comments etc or request the Team to provide their thoughts on specific issues.

  3. Looking forward to participate Bill. You don’t mind the thoughts of us younger folks not yet 50?
